BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Four student winners of
the third annual Whittington Competition at Birmingham-Southern
College will perform with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra on
Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. in BSC's Hill Recital Hall.
The orchestra, led by BSC Music Professor Dr.
Thomas Gibbs, will accompany the 2002 Whittington Competition winners,
including pianist Katy Smith, a senior music major from Hebron,
Md.; clarinetist Nicole Selvidge, a junior music major from Madison;
pianist Myron Brown, a sophomore pre-medicine major from Birmingham;
and tenor Weston Parker, a freshman undecided major from Hartselle.
The Whittington Competition is named for Frances
and Dorsey Whittington, who were leaders of The Birmingham Conservatory
of Music which later became the Music Department at Birmingham-Southern.
