Award-winning Birmingham-Southern students to perform with Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Four student winners of the third annual Whittington Competition at Birmingham-Southern College will perform with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. in BSC's Hill Recital Hall.

The orchestra, led by BSC Music Professor Dr. Thomas Gibbs, will accompany the 2002 Whittington Competition winners, including pianist Katy Smith, a senior music major from Hebron, Md.; clarinetist Nicole Selvidge, a junior music major from Madison; pianist Myron Brown, a sophomore pre-medicine major from Birmingham; and tenor Weston Parker, a freshman undecided major from Hartselle.

The Whittington Competition is named for Frances and Dorsey Whittington, who were leaders of The Birmingham Conservatory of Music which later became the Music Department at Birmingham-Southern.
