Birmingham-Southern College Concert Choir releases Christmas CD

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The Birmingham-Southern College Concert Choir has produced a new compact disc of music for the holiday season entitled "To You We Bring This Glad Noel."

The disc features over 20 selections by the choir, performed during carol services between 1993 and 2001, including selections from the final choir performance in the former McCoy United Methodist Church, and subsequent services at Canterbury United Methodist Church.

This is the first Christmas CD to be released by the choir in many years, and the first under the direction of Dr. Lester Seigel, Joseph Hugh Thomas Professor of Music and chair of BSC's Division of Fine and Performing Arts.

The CD includes an arrangement by the late Hugh Thomas, a choral music legend at Birmingham-Southern for more than a half-century.

"It seems fitting that the first selection on the CD is Hugh Thomas' arrangement of 'The Waits' carol, one of his most popular carol settings," Seigel said. "The title of the CD is taken from the last line of that arrangement."

Traditional carols, spirituals, and anthems are featured throughout the recording.
The CD will be available through the college's Division of Fine and Performing Arts for $12, plus $2 for shipping and handling if mailed. To order, call 226-4950 or e-mail at lroy@bsc.edu.
