BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Dr. Tara Sudderth, Donald
C. Brabston Professor of Accounting, is the new dean of the Division
of Business and Graduate Programs at Birmingham-Southern College.
"Dr. Sudderth brings a refreshing combination
of classroom experience and real-world business knowledge to this
position," said BSC Provost Dr. Irvin Penfield. "We are
confident that this will be a winning formula for leadership of
this program which prepares students to compete and succeed in today's
rapidly changing global marketplace."
Sudderth, who joined the BSC faculty in
1988, received her bachelor's degree from Birmingham-Southern in
1985. She received a master's in accounting from the University
of Alabama at Birmingham and her Ph.D. in accounting from the University
of Mississippi. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified
Management Accountant.
She replaces Dr. Byron Chew and Dr. Cecilia
McInnis-Bowers, who are returning full-time to their positions as
Bernard A. Monaghan Professor of Management and Elton B. Stephens
Professor of Sales/Sales Management and Marketing, respectively.
Chew and McInnis-Bowers had served in the
unique role of dean partners of Birmingham-Southern's Division of
Business and Graduate Programs for the past six years, making joint
decisions and sharing responsibilities to emulate the team-based
management model their students would most likely encounter upon
entering the corporate world following graduation.
Under their team leadership, the college's
undergraduate and graduate degree business programs earned initial
accreditation by AACSB International-The Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business in April 2002. AACSB International
is recognized as the premier accrediting agency for business schools.
