BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Several Birmingham-Southern College
students have won top awards in recent music competitions.
James Seay, a senior voice performance major from
Montgomery, won first place in the Birmingham area auditions of
the Metropolitan Opera Competition. He will advance to the regional
competition.
Winning honors from Birmingham-Southern in the
state auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing
were: Katie Hall, a voice performance major from Opelika, first
place in the freshman women category; Christopher Friedman, a music
major from Fairhope, third place in the freshman men category; Rebecca
Harris, a voice performance major from Dothan, second place in the
sophomore women category; Nathanael Gunter, a voice performance
major from Tuscaloosa, first place in the junior men category; Thomas
McDowell, a music major from Vestavia Hills, semifinalist in the
junior men category; Nicole Duncan, a music voice major from Cedar
Bluff, first place in the senior women category; and Robin Mozer,
an English major from Fairhope, second place in the advanced women
category.
Gunter also won second place in the recent National
Federation of Music Clubs competition in Birmingham.
