Orientation 2015

Welcome, new students!

Learn more about getting ready for Summer Orientation and Fall Move-In Day!

We are thrilled you have chosen to join the Birmingham-Southern community. Below you'll find a brief overview of our amazing Orientation programs.

Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation is a day-long experience focused on the college transition—connecting with your classmates, meeting with a faculty advisor, and reviewing your fall class schedule. While Summer Orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged. Summer Orientation is offered on four different dates—Friday, June 12 (date is full), Saturday, June 13 (date is full), Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20.

You will be able to register for your preferred Summer Orientation date and submit your fall course preferences in late April. Until then, check out last year's schedule to get a sense of what Summer Orientation has in store.

Parent Orientation

We recognize that the start of college is a transition for parents, as well. Therefore, we offer Parent Orientation concurrently with Summer Orientation. While students are exploring campus with their peers, parents get the chance to establish a similar support network—with each other and with multiple faculty and staff members. During this time, feel free to ask the questions you've always wanted to... without fear of embarrassing your student. We are partners with you in your student's educational journey, and you are an essential part of the BSC family.

Students will indicate your attendance when they register for Summer Orientation. No additional registration is required. Feel free to preview last year's agenda to acquaint yourself with this great experience.

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation is a mandatory, four-day experience right before the start of classes. Beginning with New Student Move-In on Saturday, August 22, students are divided into orientation groups of about 10 people and paired with an upperclass Orientation Leader (OL). Your OL will serve as your guide throughout Orientation. Fall Orientation will acquaint you with campus life, help you adjust to the academic rigor of BSC, and of course, build community among your fellow classmates. Orientation has an excellent blending of logistics, information, and the all-important fun.

Check out last year's orientation schedule to get a sense of what your first days on campus have to offer.
