Orientation 2014

Welcome, new students!

We are thrilled you have chosen to join the Birmingham-Southern community. Below you'll find a brief overview of our amazing Orientation programs.

Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation is a day-long experience focused on the college transition—meeting your classmates, connecting with campus resources, and simply put, harnessing your Panther Pride. You'll make great friends within your orientation group, and you'll also take care of critical tasks like meeting with a faculty member for advising and class registration. Rest assured, BSC will start to feel like home very soon! While Summer Orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged. Summer Orientation is offered four dates—June 13, 14, 20 or 21. Registration will be available in the near future.

Parent Orientation

We recognize that the start of college is a transition for parents, as well. Therefore, we offer Parent Orientation alongside Summer Orientation. While students are exploring campus with their peers, parents get the chance to establish a similar support network—with each other and with faculty and staff members. During this time, feel free to ask the questions you've always wanted to without fear of embarrassing your student. We are partners with you in your student's educational journey, and you are an essential part of the BSC family.

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation is a mandatory, four-day experience right before the start of classes. Beginning with New Student Move-In on Saturday, August 23, students are divided into orientation groups of about 10 people and paired with an upperclass Orientation Leader (OL). Your OL will serve as your guide throughout Orientation. Fall Orientation will acquaint you with campus life, help you adjust to the academic rigor of BSC, and build community among your fellow classmates. Orientation includes a mix of getting ready for classes, learning BSC information, and the all-important fun with new friends.
