Orientation 2016

Welcome, new students!

We are thrilled you have chosen to join the Birmingham-Southern community. Below you'll find a brief overview of our amazing Orientation programs.

Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation is a day-long experience focused on the college transition—connecting with your classmates, meeting with a faculty advisor, and reviewing your fall class schedule. While Summer Orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged. Summer Orientation is offered on four different dates—Friday, June 10, Saturday, June 11, Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18.

To get a sense of the day, check out the 2015 schedule.

Register now by the completing the Summer Orientation & Course Preference Form.

Parent Orientation

We recognize that the start of college is a transition for parents, as well. Therefore, we offer Parent Orientation concurrently with Summer Orientation. While students are exploring campus with their peers, parents get the chance to establish a similar support network--with each other and with multiple faculty and staff members. During this time, feel free to ask the questions you've always wanted to... without fear of embarrassing your student. We are partners with you in your student's educational journey, and you are an essential part of the BSC family. Feel free to preview last year's summer orientation agenda, as well as the parent sessions to acquaint yourself with this great experience.

Additionally, parents are welcome to participate in the afternoon activities associated with Fall Orientation--participating with move-in/check-in activities, meeting with your student's faculty advisor, and attending the New Student Convocation. To get a full sense of the day's events, explore last year's Parent Edition of the Fall Orientation schedule.

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation is a mandatory, four-day experience right before the start of classes. Beginning with New Student Move-In on Saturday, August 20, 2016, students are divided into orientation groups of about 10 people and paired with an upperclass Orientation Leader (OL). Your OL will serve as your guide throughout Orientation. Fall Orientation will acquaint you with campus life, help you adjust to the academic rigor of BSC, and of course, build community among your fellow classmates. Orientation has an excellent blending of logistics, information, and the all-important fun.

Check out last year's orientation schedule to get a sense of what your first days on campus have to offer.
