Orientation 2013
Welcome, new students!
We are thrilled you have chosen to join the Birmingham-Southern community, and we are equally excited that your first few days on campus are fast approaching. For most of you, your time at BSC will begin with Summer Orientation with your parents attending Parent Orientation concurrently. All students participate in the fun of Fall Orientation in August.
Summer Orientation
Summer Orientation is a day-long experience focused on the college transition—meeting your classmates, connecting with campus resources, and simply put, harnessing your Panther Pride. You’ll build great relationships within your orientation group and beyond, and you’ll also take care of critical logistics like advising and class registration. Rest assured, BSC will start to feel like home very soon. While Summer Orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged. Summer Orientation is offered on three different dates—June 14, 21 & 28. Register now to select your ideal date before the session is full. Make sure to select the “Summer Orientation” button to see all available dates. Also, check out the tentative Summer Orientation Schedule.
Parent Orientation
We recognize that the start of college is a transition for parents, as well. Therefore, we offer Parent Orientation concurrently with Summer Orientation. While students are exploring campus with their peers, parents get the chance to establish a similar support network—with each other and with multiple faculty and staff members. During this time, feel free to ask the questions you’ve always wanted to…without fear of embarrassing your student. We are partners with you in your student’s educational journey, and you are an essential part of the BSC family.
Students will indicate your attendance when they register for Summer Orientation. No additional registration is required. Feel free to preview the day’s agenda. A listing of break-out sessions will be coming soon.
Fall Orientation
Fall Orientation is a mandatory, four-day experience that occurs just prior to the start of classes. Beginning with New Student Move-In on Saturday, August 24, students are divided into orientation groups of about 10 people and paired with an upperclass Orientation Leader (OL). Your OL will serve as your guide throughout Orientation. Fall Orientation is geared around acquainting you with campus life, assisting you with the transition to the academic rigor of BSC, and of course, building community among your fellow classmates. Orientation has an excellent blending of logistics, information, and the all-important fun. Check out last year’s orientation schedule to get a sense of what your first days on campus have to offer.
