Southern Diversity Delegate
General Overview
Birmingham-Southern’s Southern Diversity Delegate is a male or female student who serves as the primary spokesperson for the Office of Multicultural Affairs on issues of diversity. He or she works cooperatively with the Office of Multicultural Affairs to sponsor cultural programs, promote community building, and facilitate cross-cultural understanding within the Birmingham-Southern College Community. The Southern Diversity Delegate serves as chair of the Multicultural Advisory Committee and regularly participates in multicultural programs. Selection of the Southern Diversity Delegate is held during spring term. The competition includes three categories:
- Recommendation Form—20%
- Competition—60%
- Interview Question—20%
Platform Issue—20% - Creativity—20%
- Popular Vote—20%
The Southern Diversity Delegate will receive the following:
- $250 Scholarship to the BSC Bookstore
- A photo spread in the yearbook
- A program budget for multicultural programs on campus
- Opportunities to represent BSC by speaking to elementary and high school groups on diversity
The Southern Diversity Delegate will be officially installed at an Induction Ceremony during fall semester.
