out. Individuals with special needs may
apply for permission to check-out late.
Mid-Year Check-Out:
Any student who vacates
his/her residence hall room or apartment during the
regular course of the academic year must report to
the Office of Residence Life to obtain a “Permission
to Check-Out of the Residence Hall” Form. This
form must be completed fully in order to avoid an
improper room change charge of $25.00.
End of Year Check-Out:
Each year during the
Spring term, instructions for the end of year check-
out are sent to all residential students via their BSC
e-mail accounts. Students are responsible for vacat-
ing their residence hall rooms or apartments by the
date specified in the academic calendar. Students are
also responsible for leaving their rooms or apart-
ments in the same condition as they were found.
Students have two options for check-out, express
check-out and check-out by appointment. Students
who chose express check-out waive their right to
appeal any fines that are issued for failure to leave
their room or apartment in the condition in which it
was found at the time of move-in.
The following tasks must be completed by each
resident prior to their final departure at the end of
the year: The fine for not completing each task is
noted.

Breakhousing:
Breakhousing will be provided
for qualified students during official school breaks.
Students qualifying for breakhousing include:
1.
Those students from a foreign country.
2.
Those students whose homes are outside the
Southeastern U.S. and who are unable to go
home.
3.
Those students not from the Birmingham area
who have a job that requires that they be here
during this time. (A letter from the employer of
the student and the student stating dates the stu-
dent will be working must be received by the
Office of Residence Life.)
4.
Athletes who have games scheduled during this
time.
An electronic link to the Break-Housing Applica-
tion will be sent to the BSC e-mail accounts of all
residential students several weeks before the break-
housing period begins. A separate application must
be made for each break-housing period. . Hilltop Vil-
lage residents do not have to apply for break housing
and may stay during the December and Spring
Breaks. The Director of Residence Life reserves the
right to remove any student from break-housing who
violates any policy in the Code of Student Conduct
during the break-housing period.
Upper-Class Room Assignments:
Preference
when making assignments usually given according
to class and grade point average. However, upper-
classmen who do not have a roommate for the
upcoming year may lose their preference status or
may be assigned a roommate or may be reassigned
to a different room or residence hall by the Office of
Residence Life.
Room Change:
The Room Change Period
occurs during the third week of each semester. Dur-
ing this time, any resident wishing to change rooms
may request to do so.
The process is dependent upon space availability
and is handled on a first come, first served basis
within class ranks (seniors first, juniors second, etc.).
No one may change rooms without going through
the official room change process. During Room
Change a resident will obtain the proper paperwork
from the Office of Residence Life which will allow
him/her to change rooms. The Office of Residence
Life reserves the right to charge a room change fee
of 25.00.
