Student Services at BSC
Student Affairs
Student Affairs, located at 220 Norton Campus Student Center on the second floor of the Norton Campus Center is easily recognized by its constant flow of students. Student Affairs handles a host of activities and services for students. Among these responsibilities are housing, student activities, student organizations, fraternities and sororities, and lost and found. The primary function of Student Affairs is to be of assistance to students in any way possible. If you have any problems, questions, or suggestions, feel free to come by. If Student Affairs can't help you, they will be able to direct you to someone who can. AND, if you don't have any questions or need any help, come by Student Affairs and volunteer your help!
There are always projects going on ... from making posters to planning programs and parties or organizing Homecoming. If it has to do with students, Student Affairs can probably be found helping in some way.
Religious Life
Important questions about God, self, and others occur during college. John Richardson, our Dean of the Chapel, coordinates Religious Life on our campus that responds to the journey of faith for all of our students. Working with campus ministers from various denominations and groups, Birmingham-Southern offers a Religious Life that reflects the diversity of our community. Yeilding Chapel serves as the central place for Christian activities with several different expressions of the Christian faith there every week. The Interfaith Campus Ministry Room in Hanson Solarium is a place where students from other religious traditions gather for discussion, prayer, and fellowship. It is also where the Interfaith Religious Life Council meets monthly. So, whether you are looking for worship, study, social activities, service projects, or simply someone to talk with, there's a place for you in Religious Life.
Emergencies
Should you have a medical emergency, contact Campus Police (x4700) day or night. Emergencies are generally handled by the emergency room at Baptist Medical Center-Princeton unless another facility is chosen. Other options for emergency care include UAB, Brookwood, St. Vincent's, and HealthSouth hospitals.
Counseling and Health Services
The Counseling and Health Services office is located on the second floor of the Norton Campus Center, and is open five days a week (specific hours are posted). Personal counselors are available by appointment to all current members of the college community and may address issues such as time/stress management, relationships, academics, family concerns, grief, as well as other issues the client wants to explore. Academic accommodations are also served in this office. Health Services will assist with minor illnesses and injuries, suture removal, strep throat testing, allergy injections, nutritional/diet counseling, and many others. Due to the number of students needing assistance, appointments are preferrable; however walk-in hours are also available. Referrals are made to physicians when deemed necessary. - Those students who live outside a 45-mile radius of the Birmingham area with a job that requires that they be here during this time. A letter on company letterhead from the employer of the student, stating the dates the student will be working, must be attached to the break housing form and submitted by the deadline or it will be returned.
- Student athletes who have games during this time.
