P.E.E.R Youth Summer Camp Intern (part time paid $1250 for 8 wks)

P.E.E.R., Inc. aims to empower a thriving, diverse, low-income community in the eastern area of Birmingham through resources for healthy living, learning, and working. P.E.E.R., Inc. serves South East Lake and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The Youth Summer Camp is for children 6-13 at East Lake UMC, 7753 1st Ave. S.., Birmingham, AL 35206. Responsibilities: Cooking demonstrations and classes, community garden maintenance and lessons, and activities and education at the East Lake Market. 15 hours per week for eight weeks 6/9-8/6/2016. Schedule varies, includes afternoons and some Saturdays.

Learn & Serve Internship: (non paid, must fund raise)

As an L&S internship you will be stretched mentally, physically and spiritually. We are looking for interns that are mature in their faith and are capable of modeling a lifestyle of love and service to our participants. What to expect: Training in appropriate technology such as water purification, sustainable agriculture, and fuel efficient cook stove. Experience teaching appropriate technology to North Americans., An inside view of the inner workings of a grassroots non-profit organization. SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

RUSH Summer Mission Camps, Summer 2016 (Paid plus room and board)

Summer interns with Urban Ministry's Joe Rush Center for Urban Mission (Walnut Grove United Methodist, 1126 Wilkes Rd, Birmingham, AL 35228) have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of low-income homeowners in the Birmingham area - and in the lives of high school and middle school student volunteers from around the country.

Responsibilities:

  • Commit to working May 31 through August 6. This is a 10 week period and only eight of these weeks will be Mission Camp weeks. The first week is an orientation/training week, and the RUSH Center is closed the week of July 4. Any other week that may not have groups scheduled for a mission camp is still a work week, though you can choose to take the week off without pay. Choosing to work would mean painting.
  • Be present at the Walnut Grove Dorm facility Sunday afternoon (by 3 pm, unless otherwise specified) through Friday noon on weeks that groups are scheduled.
  • Supervise groups (high school and middle school with their adult leaders) at the work sites throughout the week along with Site Manager Joe Moore.
  • Supervise groups while staying at the Walnut Grove dorm facility.
  • Maintain inventory and supervise cleaning and placement of all work supplies.
  • Observe and enforce (through group leaders) all rules described in the packet for participants.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of faith-based programs for the participants in the camp.
  • Participate as needed in outreach to youth groups as a representation of RUSH and Urban Ministry, Inc.

Intern take home pay is $2500, or $250 per week for the 10 week period (plus room and board) to be paid in twice-monthly periods.
