A Time of Discovery
College is a time of discovery, where students and faculty alike
are challenged to engage the world around them with new insight,
fresh perspective, and creative energy. It is important to remember
that
just as your mind makes this pilgrimage, so does your spirit.
Birmingham-Southern’s religious life staff offers support and
guidance through these important years, creating opportunities for
worship, reflection, and service.
This page is a map of sorts, meant to point you in some helpful directions whether you are just beginning your journey here at BSC, or already well on your way. There are opportunities not included here, and if you don't find what you're looking for, please come talk to one of us. These worship services, small group experiences, and invitations for pastoral care and counseling are offered in the sincere hope that you will find a place to grow and give during your time on the Hilltop.
The Spiritual Journey of College
Discovering the richness of Spiritual truths and practices is part of the process of going to college. Most of our students have had contact with a spiritual tradition prior to coming to college and now is the time to develop their understanding of that tradition.
Birmingham-Southern College is a United Methodist related college and its history is rooted in the Christian faith. Approximately 35% of our students come from the United Methodist section of Christianity. 65% of our students come from other understandings of Christianity as well as from other faiths. Since the 21 st Century will be one of increasing diversity throughout the world, at Birmingham-Southern College we honor the variety of faith traditions among us. United Methodism has a commitment to balance between the conviction of one’s own faith and respect of other traditions.
You are welcome in any of our programs or services. I and other Campus Ministers are happy to visit with you most any time. We are only a phone call away.
Welcome to the Journey.
Shalom,
John Richardson
