Counseling and Health Services
Counseling and Health Services
College can cause stress on the mind and the body. Our goal is to help you learn to find balance between the demands around you--and to help you stay healthy so you can experience academic success. Stop by or call to schedule an appointment and let us prepare you to explore this chapter in your life.
What we do:
Counseling helps students manage temporary or ongoing challenges--some large, some small. We offer individual and group counseling, consultations, off-campus referrals, and educational programming. We can assist with a broad range of issues, including homesickness, time management, stress management, depression, eating disorders, trauma, and a variety of other concerns. Care is provided by two full-time professional counselors who are also on-call if a crisis arises.
Sometimes we all need a little help along the way. If you are a current member of the BSC community and are experiencing stress or personal problems—our personal counselors are available to offer support. The primary purpose of the counseling center is to provide individual and group counseling in an atmosphere of confidentiality and acceptance. We also work with students needing academic accommodations due to learning, emotional, or physical disabilities.
You may want to seek counseling if you are experiencing:
- Stress and anxiety
- Problems with friends and intimate relationships
- Eating issues
- Sleeping too much or too little
- Academic problems—missing classes, avoiding people
- Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or loneliness
- Self-defeating or destructive patterns of behavior
- Confusion about your life
- Decision-making issues
Our available services include:
- Individual counseling
- Group counseling
- Referral and assistance in finding off-campus resources
- Educational programs

Health Services helps students maintain a healthy body and lifestyle. We can diagnose and treat minor illnesses and injuries, manage chronic health conditions, conduct lab testing and allergy injections, provide information about sexually transmitted infections and contraception, and administer seasonal vaccinations. Personal care is provided by a full-time RN plus a visiting family medicine physician.
Office of Health Services
The Office of Health Services provides on-campus health care and health education tailored to the individual's needs. When necessary, significant illnesses and injuries are referred off-campus to specialists or health care facilities of students' choosing. In the event of an off-campus referral, it is necessary to present an insurance card and co-pay at the doctor's office or hospital. If a student has no means of personal transportation, it may be arranged through Campus Police. There is no charge for visits to Health Services.
We recognize the importance of students having a place to seek medical advice privately and confidentially, therefore all visits with Health Services professionals are confidential. Client privacy is maintained for all clients with only limited exceptions, and records related to student health and visits to Health Services are held securely at all times. Further information regarding confidentiality and records is available in our statement of the Client Confidentiality, Privacy, and Records Policy
