General Rules of the Library
- Library patrons are expected to treat materials and facilities with respect
and to conduct themselves in a manner that will not disturb others who may
be using the Learning Center/Library for study or research. Loud or
boisterous behavior or conversation has no place in the Library. Conversation
should be kept to a minimum in the study areas of the Library.
- Students are expected to return borrowed material within the designated
length of time. Checkout period for books and recordings is twenty-one
days; for juvenile books, the checkout period is seven days; and for videos
the checkout period is three days. Books may be renewed as many times
as needed, unless there has been a request for a particular item. Reference,
audiovisuals, periodicals, and some reserve materials may be used in the
Library only.
- Food, drinks, and tobacco products are not permitted in the Learning Center/Library. Birmingham
city ordinance prohibits smoking in the Library. This includes the
lobby of the building.
- Please do not re-shelve any books, periodicals, or microforms after use. Staff members will return the materials to their proper locations as promptly as possible.
Library Computer Use Policy
The Learning Center/Library provides computers and Internet access for its patrons in their instructional activities. All library patrons are expected to adhere to College computer policies as spelled out in the Policy on the Legal and Ethical Use of Technology Resources, Electronic Mail, and the Internet. Individuals accessing the Internet through the College facilities are expected to do so in a responsible and ethical manner and to conform to all established policies. Inappropriate use includes, but is not limited to: commercial activities; creating, displaying, or transmitting threatening, obscene, or harassing language and/or materials; copyright and licensing violations; violation of personal privacy; and acts in violation of federal or state laws.
