Urban Environmental Park
Environmental sustainability takes a front seat on campus with new lake/park area
The gorgeous new Urban Environmental Park on campus was dedicated at ceremonies during Homecoming/Reunion Weekend Nov. 7.
The park, including a 1.5 acre lake, has been added to the natural setting of Birmingham-Southern’s wooded campus and includes an amphitheatre, walkways, a fountain, and rain gardens for storm water management.
The donor-funded park will serve as a leisure-time and recreational activity area for students as well as provide a wealth of hands-on learning for students, especially those in the new Urban Environmental Studies major.
Located on the west end of campus between the residence hall quad and the intramural fields (on the site that formerly housed old fraternity row), the Urban Environmental Park was constructed by Johnson Kreis Construction Co. Two under-construction residence halls that will provide suite-style living for 167 men and women will soon overlook the new park.
