There's a rich life beyond your textbooks
People come to Birmingham-Southern to work hard for the life ahead of them. But that’s not all there is to BSC, which is located in Birmingham, the state's largest city. Life on the Hilltop is as varied and exciting as our student body—people like you who are always making new friends and sharing new experiences. Take time to join at least one of our more than 80 student religious, service, cultural, musical, athletic, social, recreational, and honorary organizations including 15 fraternities and sororities, three choirs, dance, theatre, school newspaper, yearbook, and a literary magazine. Enjoy late-night coffee, music or poetry in the Attic; a swim in the indoor pool or grilling out on the residence hall quad; or an NCAA Division III sporting event or theater performance. You may even find yourself relaxing and studying in our new park featuring an amphitheater, walking trails, and a lake.
More than 85 percent of our students live on campus in residence halls which feature wireless Internet, laundry facilities, study and meeting areas, and much more. The Caf, our residential dining hall, has a great selection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner which includes, pizza & pasta, a salad bar, grille area, traditional deli, home cooked meals, exhibition cooking , and a huge dessert bar plus much more. Whether it's homemade pasta, hand cut fries, fresh baked bread or delicious desserts their skilled culinary staff are sure to please. Looking for something more? The dining team also operates two Provision on Demand stores to fill all your snack and room needs. The Attic features a Subway Cafe, offering all your Subway favorites plus a full selection of Seattle's Best Coffee.
If you’re into staying fit, our Striplin Fitness Center has a cardiovascular workout room, two basketball/volleyball courts, two racquetball courts, a suspended indoor running/walking track, a swimming pool, an aerobics room, billiards and ping pong, and locker room facilities.
Weekly opportunities for religious life include the Gathering in Yeilding Chapel, a variety of Wesley small groups, an Interfaith Alliance, Catholic prayers, Episcopal Eucharist, Reformed University Fellowship, and Jewish Life. Students of many faiths find their place at BSC.
But there's more to your four-years at BSC than life on campus; there is also a rich, exciting city life just outside your door. Birmingham-Southern is located on the western edge of Birmingham. With a regional population just over 1 million people, Birmingham is Alabama's largest city. It has a rich cultural heritage, a thriving music scene, and fantastic opportunities to get outdoors. There are also festivals, sporting events, and restaurants that have earned rave reviews around the country.
