What better way to reach a more nuanced understanding of the world’s cultures, religions, governments, and people than to study it? Once you’ve jumped on board as an international studies major, we’ll improve your understanding of the concepts of culture and diversity, the historical interaction among the world’s nations, and the geographical regions, among other topics—approached from a variety of disciplines.
Core requirements for the international studies major at Birmingham-Southern include intensive training in a foreign language so you can think and communicate beyond national borders as well as a senior research project that synthesizes the knowledge and skills you developed in the program. Another central component of the major is a study abroad experience at some point during a semester.
Once you’ve obtained this knowledge, a whole new world can open up for you. Not only will an international studies degree from BSC help you be better-skilled at creative problem solving and the ability to weigh an argument, but you can also consider a wide range of careers in management, teaching, diplomatic relations, banking, marketing, civil service, healthcare, real estate, sales, and so much more.
