Voice Mail Information
Meridian Mail Student Voice Mailbox
Meridian Mail is an electronic voice messaging system that gives you an easy, fast and dependable way to communicate with people both inside and outside the College. A voice mailbox has been established for each resident student on campus. Upon being assigned a room, you will need to personalize the "greeting" and change the "password" on your voice mailbox. Your unique password will discourage anyone from breaking into your mailbox and listening to or deleting your messages. Without a password, students cannot assume privacy of their voice mail. If you are on the telephone you will receive a "call waiting tone" which indicates a second incoming call. The voice mail system will not answer your call if the line is busy. Meridian Mail notifies you when a new message arrives by a stutter dial tone. Check the Meridian Mail instructions found in this directory for recording mailbox greetings and changing passwords
Telephone Abuse
.Phone abuse, and improper use of voice mail disrupts the business of the College, annoys fellow students, and is not in keeping with the social policy of the College - to be sensitive and considerate of the rights of others. Sending obscene or distasteful messages, or using distasteful language in your greeting can result in embarrassment for both you and your roommate. Remember that your family, friends, faculty and administrators, as well as fellow students will hear your greeting. Abusing the Meridian Mail System by locking out others from their voice mailbox, breaking into mailboxes and listening to private messages, sending voice mail messages in someone else’s name or any other disruption of service can be both hurtful and embarrassing. Misusing the phone system can result in a student losing phone and long distance privileges as well as being brought before the Honor Council. Incidents involving menacing messages or serious threats to personal safety should be reported to Campus Security at 4700.
Voice Mail
Voice mail is maintained by the Telecommunications Department. Maintenance on the Telephone System includes password changes and unlocking user voice mailboxes when necessary. Telephone Fraud
The unauthorized use, possession and distribution of authorization codes, calling card numbers or credit card numbers with intent to defraud is a violation of Federal and State law. If convicted you may receive up to 15 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. Any attempt to misuse the College Telephone Telephone System which results in loss of funds or increased expense to the College is a serious offense and will be handled appropriately. Long distance phone calls are NEVER FREE. Fraudulent use of the Telecommunications System is a violation of the honor code and will not be tolerated.
