A: There are two reasons. First, this change will remove authentication from the BSC campus and allow you to authenticate directly in the "cloud". This means that should the campus lose network or power for an extended time, you will still be able to access your email from anywhere off-campus. Second, your email account size just doubled. When the college first moved to Office365 in 2012, user accounts were given 25GB. That amount has been increased to 50GB.
A: The cutover is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon (June 25th) around 5pm. You may continue to use your email normally during the conversion process. However, be aware that as the authentication process is converted, you may not be able to login successfully to http://outlook.office365.com for a short time. If this happens, please continue to try periodically. The conversion is expected to take between 4-6 hours and all users should be able to fully utilize their email accounts by the morning of Thursday, June 26th. If you have bookmarked "cloudmail.bsc.edu", you will want to update those bookmarks/favorites to "outlook.office365.com".
