Worker's Compensation

Worker's Compensation

Worker's Compensation insurance coverage is provided for all employees of the college. The insurance covers an employee's accidental death or injury or occupational illness that occurs in the course of employment. The Worker's Compensation laws of Alabama govern benefits.

If an employee is injured in the course of employment or believes he/she has an occupational illness, there are standard procedures (outlined below) that should be followed to ensure the employee receives maximum care and benefits. There will be no benefits under Worker's Compensation if the procedures listed below are not followed.

If an individual is injured, but doesn't wish to seek medical attention, or if an individual is involved in an accident that doesn't cause an injury, Human Resources, at extension 4644, should still be notified. This will allow the individual to seek treatment if a condition worsens in the following days, and it allows the college to correct any safety hazards that might injure other employees.

Nonemergency Care During Normal Business Hours

During the college's normal operating hours, an employee who is injured on-the-job or believes he/she has an occupational illness should contact the Human Resources Department at extension 4644. The HR Office will then provide a referral for the employee to the Southside location of St. Vincent's Occupational Health Clinic. All follow-up care, including specialist referrals, will be coordinated by St. Vincent's Occupational Health Clinic.
