Theatre and Dance Scholarships

Each spring, the Department of Theatre and Dance hosts a Scholarship Day to allow prospective students the opportunity to compete for the various financial awards offered by the division. Auditions for Theatre and Dance are Saturday February 7, 2009.

If you are unable to attend the theatre audition on February 7, please contact Michael Flowers at 205.226.4783 to schedule an alternative date on either February 3 or February 5 at 3:30 p.m.

Dance scholarships are awarded on the basis of a ballet class audition and an interview. Auditioning students should wear black leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes, no skirts or body warmers, and hair secured in a bun. Pointe is not required in this audition. The audition serves as the placement class for upper level dance classes.

Theatre scholarships are awarded based on an audition and interview with the theatre faculty. For musical theatre, the audition consists of sixteen measures each from two Broadway/Off Broadway songs and one monologue of no longer than two minutes in length. Auditionees should choose material close to their age and experience -- please, no Shakespeare or dialects. No tapes or CDs. An accompanist will be provided. For theatre, the audition consists of two monologues of no longer than two minutes in length each.

All auditionees will participate in theatre games and have the opportunity for a one-on-one interview with a theatre faculty member. Students interested in technical theatre and design should bring with them a portfolio of their work.
