Dance
The BSC Dance program offers the B.A. in Dance, the B.A. in Dance with Dance Teaching Certification K-12, the minor, and also serves those who wish to study dance as an elective part of their liberal arts education. Based in classical ballet, students also explore other dance idioms.
Classes in dance include all levels of ballet technique, classical
ballet repertoire, jazz, modern, and tap dance, dance performance,
dance history, pedagogy, and choreography. Music labs, Pilates,
and anatomy/injury studies are also offered. Students must already
be placed or successfully audition to be placed in upper level ballet
classes, and pass a faculty review by the end of the Sophomore year
in order to be eligible for either of the majors in Dance.
The dance student is provided with three large, air-conditioned studios with complete audio-video and stereo equipment. Live music accompanies all of the ballet classes.
Graduates of the Dance program have many different career opportunities. Some continue their education in graduate dance programs. Others begin their careers as professional dancers in major ballet companies, Broadway shows, and national and regional entertainment companies. Dance graduates also work as costumers, teachers, actors, or are employed in various business careers.
