Prepare

Once you have submitted all the necessary paperwork and been academically admitted to BSC, we will create the immigration document you need in order to apply for your visa (Form I-20 for F-1 Students; Form DS-2019 for J-1 Exchange Visitors). This document will be mailed to you in a packet containing:

  • your acceptance letter
  • your scholarship award letter (if applicable)
  • an official certificate of admission
  • a Welcome letter from the Sklenar Center
  • Confirmation of Intent to Enroll form
  • information about important issues such as medical records and housing

On receipt of the packet, you should follow these steps:

  • Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee: Go to www.fmjfee.com. Click the Proceed to I-901 Form and Payment button and follow all instructions.
  • Find a U.S. Embassy/Consulate: Go to www.travel.state.gov. Go to the Visas box and then click on the Find a U.S. Embassy link on the left-hand side of the page.
  • Apply for an F-1 or J-1 Student Visa
    Go to www.travel.state.gov. Click on Go to the U.S. Visas box. In the Travel to the United States box, click on Study & Exchange.
  • Confirm your Enrollment (Complete and mail this PDF form after you make your online fee payment.)
  • Submit Medical Records (Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the General Information section.)
  • Apply for Housing (Click on the Brochure link at the top of the page.)
  • Make a Payment to your Student Account (Payment can also be made by international wire transfer. Please contact the International Student Advisor for more information.)

Please read this important information in advance of travelling to the U.S.:

  • Arriving at a U.S. Port of Entry: Go to www.ice.gov/sevis. Click on the For Students link on the left-hand side of the page. Read Steps 4-6: Arriving.For details on the BSC New Student Orientation Program, click here.
  • Health Insurance: All F-1 and J-1 international students are required to purchase a health insurance policy selected by BSC that meets the institutional and federal requirements for insurance coverage. Students are automatically signed up for the insurance by the Sklenar Center and the cost is billed to your Student Account each semester. Please e-mail the International Student Advisor to confirm the anticipated yearly cost of the policy. This policy does not cover routine dental or vision care.
