Law School Admissions

Admission to all law schools is highly competitive. While there are many factors which are considered in the admission process, including extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, application essays, and others, by far the most important factors are the student’s college grade point average and score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) (given four times a year and usually taken at the end of the junior year or beginning of the senior year).

Generally speaking, it is difficult for a student to be admitted to law school if his or her grade point average is less than a 3.0 and his or her LSAT score is not in the top fifty percent. To be competitive for admission to a top ten ranked law school, for the most part a student needs in to have at least a 3.7 grade point average and score in at least the top ten percent on the LSAT. Birmingham Southern students have established an excellent record of being admitted to law school. In the last three years, 56 Birmingham-Southern students have applied to law school and all but 3 have been admitted to at least one law school. More importantly, many of these BSC students have been admitted to many of the top law schools in the country.
