Internships and Work Abroad

International work and internships provide students with the opportunity to learn how to relate to people from different countries, meanwhile gaining valuable work experience in an increasingly interconnected world. The Sklenar Center for International Programs assists students interested in pursuing international careers with securing opportunities to work in foreign settings.

Internship placements occur during the summer and require students to commit to work at the host organization for at least six weeks. Depending upon the company or organization, internships may be paid or unpaid. Students have access to various international internship scholarships to help defray the costs of living/travel expenses.

1. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals

4. The Education Abroad Network (TEAN)
   TEAN Internship Program offers a range of study abroad internship placements for students and recent graduates interested in gaining valuable work experience in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia.

5. ELAP
   Participation in volunteer opportunities abroad is an excellent way to immerse oneself in another country's way of life. ISA-ELAP is an enriching experience for proficient Spanish speakers who are seeking to contribute to an organization's responsibilities and mission while simultaneously learning about themselves in an unfamiliar, and at times, challenging environment. 9. Alice R. Pratt and Junior Chamber of Commerce Internship in International Affairs
   Work in the Institute for International Education (IIE) International Visitor Program. The internships are paid, full-time positions, established to promote the international careers of current university students or recent graduates. The intern's primary responsibility is assisting the manager in creating professional schedules for international visitors who are traveling to Houston as guests of the U.S. State Department. 10. The Colin & Brooke Lee Internship for International Affairs
    The program is offered annually to university students or recent graduates to assist IIE's community Outreach Programs Office. Interns gain experience in working for a non-profit that deals with international education and professional exchanges. For further information, visit

11. AustraLearn
    The program offers summer and semester internships for academic credit in Australia and New Zealand in almost all fields of study. 12. Syracuse University
    Syracuse offers summer internships in England, Spain, France, Switzerland, and Singapore. Interns assume full time, unpaid positions with selected companies or organizations in a variety of fields. Graduate internships are also available.
