Global Engagement Initiatives
SCIP provides programs and creates connections that offer opportunities to explore global issues and to have access to cross-cultural perspectives and experiences that enhance the overall BSC experience. Below are some of the exciting organizations available to students interested in engaging with BSC’s globally-focused student groups and programs:
Foreign Language Club: The Foreign Language Club promotes the exploration of modern foreign languages among members of the campus community. Specifically, the club works to foster an understanding of other languages and cultures, promote study abroad, encourage the academic study of foreign languages, and promote links between the campus and the international community.
Global Gatherers celebrate and make connections with the people and cultures represented by foreign students, faculty and staff.
The International Film Club comes together to watch and discuss foreign films and their influence on modern film and society.
The International Floor houses 12 American and 12 foreign students on a single floor in the Hanson residential hall.
Love Asia provides a platform of communication and activities for anyone who is interested in learning about today’s Asia, works to broaden perspective on and encourage appreciation of Asian culture, and supports Asian international students.
Middle Eastern Central Asian Alliance (MECAA) provides a conduit for the expression of Middle Eastern and Central Asian cultures, identities, perspectives, arts, issues, and persons in the Birmingham-Southern community. Through education and dialogue around Middle Eastern and Central Asian culture, MECAA works toward tolerance and understanding among people of different perspectives.
Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC) was created in the interest to help generate ideas for more effective, educational and creative multicultural programming for the BSC student body. Representatives from Allies, Black Student Union, Jewish Student Association, Multi-cultural Awareness Committee, the Inter-Fraternal Council, Pan Hellenic Council, Residence Life Staff, Muslim Student Association, and Student Government Association meet once every two weeks to discuss current multicultural programs, present ideas for new multicultural programming, and network between member organizations. MAC coordinates the annual Diversity Week program.
Multi-cultural Awareness Organization (MCAO) works to heighten cultural awareness at Birmingham-Southern by organizing and promoting a variety of cultural activities that provide opportunities to learn about other parts of the globe.
Muslim Student Association (MSA) encourages and enables Muslims with basic knowledge and competence in Islam to contribute individually and collectively toward meeting human needs in conformity with Islamic doctrines and beliefs.
