Internationalizing the Campus/Curriculum

Curriculum Development

Campus Diversity Opportunities

  • The Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) Environmental Program invites faculty from all ACS institutions to submit proposals for Curriculum Development Grants made possible by funding from ACS institutions and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. These grants will provide a means for faculty to devote time and resources to create courses and refine existing courses in order to incorporate environmental themes into the curriculum. The grants will emphasize support for innovative interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration in course development. Priority will be given to topics in the Humanities and in fields that are not traditionally considered “environmental.” For more information, please visit http://www.colleges.org/~enviro/alliances/cfd/grants/.

    • Curriculum Development, Community Partnership, Collaborative Research and Training: these grants, operating on a rolling deadline, may be used for travel to international destinations to establish contacts, for collaborative activities, course materials, or stipends for assistants.
    • Community Partnership, Environmental Justice and Service Learning : Grants up to $3,000 each have been set aside to encourage course development proposals that involve some form of partnering with the greater community. Partnerships may be local, regional, national, or international.
    • Collaborative Research Grants and Technology Training : Grants for up to $1500 support innovative interdisciplinary and/or inter-institutional collaboration in environmental research. Technology training grants support training that will enhance pre-existing or new environmental courses. Priority is given to courses that involve collaboration among ACS institutions, promote interface with FOTIM (a consortium of 11 South African colleges and universities), and utilize/benefit from advanced technologies.
    • Student Teaching Assistantships : Stipends may be provided for junior and senior students to assist faculty in a number of ways, such as leading discussion groups, motivating student participation, assisting with grading, etc. Student assistants can help faculty in courses at home and abroad; they can also facilitate service learning projects with community partners.
