Collaborative Artistry in the Musical Arts

Preceding their February 24 concert, Associate Professor of Music Jacqueline Leary-Warsaw and guest artist and organist Michael Matthes present this forum on collaborative musical artistry in which—through discussion
and performance—they will address the question: How does one adapt to their partner’s unique
musicianship without subjugating their own musical character?

Jacqueline Leary-Warsaw in Faculty Voice Recital, with Guest Artist Michael Matthes

Join soprano Jacqueline Leary-Warsaw and Michael Matthes, titular organist at the Cathedral of Troyes and professor of organ at the Conservatoire National de Troyes, who will perform a program of sacred works with a Lenten theme prior to performing together in France. Matthes, an international concert artist, is known for his brilliant performances with many of Europe’s greatest orchestras.

Concert Choir Homecoming Performance

The Concert Choir returns from its annual spring tour with a varied program led by Lester Seigel.

Symphonic Band at the Alabama
April 11, 2013, 7 p.m.
The Alabama Theatre, 1817 Third Ave. N., Birmingham

BSC Opera: Die Fledermaus

Johann Strauss Jr.’s immortal comedy has enchanted audiences with its unforgettable melodies since its premiere, and you will delight in this presentation by our students. Symphonic Band Outdoor Concert
April 30, 2013, 7 p.m.
Hill Music Building Amphitheatre
The ensemble will perform marches, patriotic music, and lighter musical selections. Bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy some family-friendly music beside the Edwards Bell Tower.

Jazz Band Outdoor Concert
May 1, 2013, 4 p.m.
Alumni Plaza
The Jazz Band will perform its concluding concert of the semester just outside the Norton Student Center. The ensemble will perform a wide variety of styles from standard jazz charts through several Latin styles, and even types of ballroom dance music.

Southern Chorale Spring Concert

BSC’s Southern Chorale, led by Jeff Kensmoe, offers a varied program of choral works.

Student Voice Recital

Students chosen from the BSC voice studios will be presented in a group recital.

Hilltop Singers Season Finale

The annual end-of-season show by the 16-member vocal ensemble is a much-anticipated event, ranging from vocal jazz to Flight of the Conchords, this year's show is not to be missed!

The Hugh and Barbara Thomas Master Class Series, 
presented by the Waters family and State Farm
The Thomas Master Class Series brings renowned performers and teachers to campus to work with music students. This year’s series will include composer Phillip Rhodes, Andrew Mellon Professor Emeritus at Carleton College, and vocal pedagogue Nancy Walker of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Details and other master class teachers for the year will be announced.

Admission to concerts and recitals at BSC is open to the public and free of charge, except for the performances of Die Fledermaus.
