Media and Film Studies Major
Birmingham-Southern College proudly announces a new major: Media and Film Studies, enrolling students now for Fall 2010. This innovative program is believed to be unique. While other colleges and universities offer classes and majors in media studies, communications, cultural studies, or film, BSC is breaking new ground in combining the best of courses in the social sciences, humanities, and film. It is truly interdisciplinary in the liberal arts tradition, demonstrating academic rigor, as well as breadth and depth of study.
As a Media and Film Studies major at Birmingham-Southern, you will take a core set of courses before selecting one of three concentrations: Mass Media, Media and Culture, or Media Production.
What is Media and Film Studies?
Media and Film Studies at Birmingham-Southern College focuses on the historical and cultural understanding of text, the analysis of the psychological, sociological, and political impacts of mass media, and the critical examination of film and film production. In addition to film, the course of study represents all forms of media and media production, including art, digital systems, traditional arts and letters, print and broadcast news, the trade press, television, photojournalism, the Internet, and emerging information systems, as well as social media.
