BONNER LEADER PROGRAM AT BSC

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, apply to be a Bonner Leader at Birmingham-Southern College. 

The Bonner Leader program at BSC is a leadership development program for students committed to community and civic engagement.  As a Bonner Leader, you will work in a community-based organization and participate in a variety of enrichment activities designed to enhance your college experience and help you grow as a person. Bonner Leaders become members of the Bonner network, where they can access post-graduate opportunities and build relationships with like-minded students from other institutions.   

Application Process

  • Complete the online application by February 1. The application requires a brief description of your service activities and two short-answer (500 word) responses related to community engagement.
  • Finalists will be selected for video interviews in mid-February.
  • Those selected as Bonner Leaders will be notified by mid-March.

 

Benefits of the Bonner Leaders Program:

  • $1000 merit scholarship
  • Access to work study funds up to $1500 for community engagement work
  • Connections with the national Bonner network, including post-graduate opportunities and relationships with like-minded students
  •   Attend conferences and training retreats with other BSC Bonner Leaders
  • Leadership development opportunities unique to Bonner Leaders

 

Bonner Leaders at BSC agree to the following commitments:

  • Work-study assignment for pay with local community agencies for 7-10 hours per week
  • Attend weekly training and professional development meetings
  • Attend Bonner orientation, Fall Break, and other retreats with BSC Bonner Leaders
  • Integrate academic work with work in the community
  • Be a full time student and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Make community engagement a priority for your time at BSC
