Internships
Birmingham-Southern encourages students to engage in pre-professional
relationships with community organizations. As interns, students
spend at least 120 hours working on site at the organization and
receive academic credit.
A faculty member in the appropriate discipline serves as sponsor for the internship and supplies an academic component to the experience consisting of required readings and writing. Each year students may choose from a number of Interim internships sponsored by the College which include pre-health internships, pre-law internships, and English internships. Students may also organize their own experience by arranging an internship with a community organization. This past January, for example, a student doing an internship in biology spent the month working in Michigan with the Medical Examiner, assisting in autopsies.
