UrbanKidz
What is it?
An after school program for children who live in the West End area.
Who is the client?
The clients are children between the ages of nine and fourteen and live in the surrounding neighborhood.
What do I need to have?
- Transportation to Urban Ministries Building, either car pool or your own car
- A willingness to work with children
- A volunteer information sheet available at your first visit
- Kind, caring concern.
How much time does it take?
Volunteers work for 1-3 hours in the afternoons once a week or as many times as desired. Additionally, various special programming opportunities are available throughout the month.
When is it?
Monday through Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm. Some reading is done during the school day at Hemphill Elementary which is located across the street from the Urban building. There are also special activities that occur at various times every month where volunteers are needed.
What if…
I'm running late?
Call Urban Ministries at (205)781-0517 to let them know that you are on your way
I know ahead of time that I have a test or some other obligation and can't make it on my designated day?
Call Urban Ministries at (205)781-0517 so the directors can let the kids know that you will not be there. The children really look forward to your time with them, so it is important to stay in touch.
I decide I don't want to do Urban Kidz anymore?
Inform our office (4720) as well as the project coordinator and share the reasons with us. We will use the information to improve the program.
