Compass Student Publication
Compass is a student-run journal of leadership and service published each spring. Inaugurated in 1999, Compass provides a forum for students, faculty, staff, and the community to discuss leadership and service by featuring academic papers from all disciplines as well as reflective essays on leaders, leadership, and service. Students serve as editor and assistant editor of Compass.
Compass is supported through the Student Government Association and the Hess Center.
Submit your work for publication.
If you have written an essay that addresses leadership or service, consider submitting it for publication in Compass. The Compass invites a wide range of pieces on leadership and service, including leadership case studies, leader profiles, theoretical examinations of leadership, critical examinations of social challenges that require leadership, and reflections on personal leadership or service experiences. Any paper or project broadly related to leadership and service is appropriate for Compass. Authors need not be DLS program students. Publishing your undergraduate work is a considerable distinction; Southern Academic Review and Quad Literary Magazine provide additional opportunities for students to publish their work.
