Student Leaders in Service
June 13-18
Student Leaders in Service is a week-long residential program for students who will be seniors in the 2010-2011 academic school year. The program exposes high school students to leadership theories and provides opportunities to practice leadership through community service, while also giving students a taste of college life.
Lead: Learn leadership theory, explore ethics, and practice leadership through simulations
Serve: Participate in community service across Birmingham: work with children, the environment, the working poor and others in need
Experience BSC: Participate in classroom exercises with BSC faculty, explore the campus, meet current students and spend five nights in a BSC residence hall
Student Leaders in Service Activities:
- Ropes course and hiking
- Visit Civil Rights Institute

- Case studies and simulations
- Public speaking opportunities
- Service opportunities with various organizations, including the YWCA and Urban Ministry
- Informative sessions on leadership, volunteering, and serving
- On-campus activities
- A week at Birmingham-Southern College

Requirements: Students must be current juniors who will be seniors for the 2009-2010 school year. We require a 2.0 high school GPA and a 21 ACT or 970 SAT to be admitted. An equivalent score on the PSAT or the PLAN is acceptable.
Cost: There is a $450 fee for participants in the Student Leaders in Service program. Food, lodging, entertainment, transportation, and reading materials are included.
