Brief Career Background:
Dr. McCorquodale became an assistant professor of education at Birmingham-Southern in January 2004 after serving since 1999 as instructor in the School of Education at Univeristy of Alabama at Birmingham. She also has served as Teacher in Residence at UAB, Langauge Arts Facilitor with Hoover City Schools, and as an elementary teacher in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. Her interest in literacy and integrated studies makes her a frequent presenter at local, state, national and international conferences. The Association of Childhood Education International published her most recent book that she coauthored, CHILDREN'S FEARS OF WAR AND TERRORISM: A RESOURCE FOR TEACHERS AND PARENTS.
In addition to teaching at the University of Alabama at Birmingham at the graduate and undergraduate levels, Dr. McCorquodale worked in public school positions that included kindergarten through sixth-grades in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee. She currently teaches courses in literacy, language arts, and children's literature, and serves as supervisor for teacher candidates' clinical practice.

Areas of Academic Interest:
Dr. McCorquodale's research interests are in the areas of literature-based approach to reading, guided reading, and interdisciplinary approach to curriculum planning. Her work related to these topics has been published by the National Council of Teachers of English, The International Reading Association, and the Association of Childhood Education International, and in local and state publications. She presents her work at local, state, regional and national conferences. In addition, she co-author of the book, Children’s Fears of War and Terrorism: A Resource for Teachers and Parents, published by the Association of Childhood Education International.
