The Program
The Urban Environmental Studies major is one of only a handful of programs in the United States specifically focused on understanding and solving the critical environmental problems of our urban centers.
Since over half of the Earth’s population lives in cities, and most population growth in the coming decades will be urban, finding solutions for urban environmental problems will define humanity’s progress towards sustainability this century.
The goal of the program is to train socially- and environmentally-literate graduates who can help lead the way on our path towards environmental sustainability. With faculty from across campus, Urban Environmental Studies students prepare for a variety of careers through faculty-student research, scholarly publications, and internships.
The program boasts a range of educational and stewardship programs locally, nationally, and internationally where BSC students and faculty work to understand and to protect our environment and improve our relationship with the natural world.
Senior UES majors will spend two semesters intensively studying an issue of their choice alongside professors.
