Mission and Vision

Our division motto - REAL: Reflective Educators for All Learners – describes the essence of our program. We believe that our students, faculty and k-12 community see our Education Department as a thoughtful, caring, educators who believe all students can learn. We place our teacher candidates in a variety of clinical experiences to expose them to diverse student populations, special needs classrooms, and various methods of teaching. We believe this provides a quality program that prepares distinctive quality educators as a result of their preparation, teaching experience and assessment.

Our Mission Statement, developed over the years, details our approach to achieving these goals.

The Conceptual Framework is a collaborative effort by BSC faculty, students and the P-12 community; consistent with our Mission Statement; and continuously evaluated and refined. It provides direction for programs, courses, teaching, candidate performance, scholarship, service, and unit accountability.

The BSC education program is accredited by the National Council Accreditation in Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE). Details of the NCATE Unit standards came be found here.

Invitational Education has long been an important part of the knowledge base for the BSC education program philosophy.

Reflective teaching and learning is the lynch pin of our program. To find out more about reflective theory refer to the Required Reading list or click here.
