Kristin Harper, Coordinator of Service-Learning, Hess Center for Leadership and Service

The Office of Service Learning is a part of the Hess Center for Leadership and Service and is located on the second floor of the Norton Campus Center. Service Learning is one of the distinctive features of Birmingham Southern College. Coordinated through the Office of Service Learning, students and faculty have developed an extensive program of service benefitting both the College and community.

Students coordinate several local projects such as delivering Meals on Wheels, tutoring elementary school students, and staffing homeless shelters. During spring break, students have the opportunity to travel to new cultures, build community and be of service.

Interim projects in service learning provide opportunities for intensive, course based service in local, national and international communities. During the fall and spring terms, selected courses offer service learning components. Using the gift of education and service to others has long been a part of the College's mission and students are encouraged to become involved.
