Urban Environmental Studies

The urban environmental studies program engages the complex environmental challenges
arising as a result of urbanization and other human activities. This unique program
integrates insights and methods from natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities
and incorporates applied learning experiences. Students completing the program will be
equipped to apply their skills and knowledge to contribute practical solutions to solving
problems resulting from human-environmental interactions. Graduates will be prepared
for further study or for careers in the non-profit, governmental, and business sectors.
Upon completion of the urban environmental studies major, students will be able to

articulate relationships between anthropogenic and natural environments using
scientific and humanistic paradigms
•
interpret complex interactions between social structures and human settlements
•
apply appropriate methodological tools to examine urban environmental issues
and perform related analyses
•
create and communicate practical potential solutions to complex urban
environmental problems
