International Tutoring

International Tutoring at Baptist Church of the Covenant welcomes English Language Learners from a number of countries and backgrounds every Monday night from 7-8PM. Volunteers assist adult students with conversational English and cultural immersion questions, or help with childcare. Because the students speak some English, no additional language experience is required – the only requirements are hospitality and patience. Special events include holiday and end-of-the-year potlucks that celebrate the diversity of students and volunteers alike.

According to former coordinator Brooke Wright, International Tutoring: “is a wonderful opportunity to cross cultural boundaries and establish relationships through sharing, relating, and caring for others. Contrary to what many people may believe, tutoring allows for an equal exchange of knowledge and learning between the teacher and student.” BSC volunteers meet on Monday nights at 6:45 in the Norton
