Desert Island Supply Company
Located in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Birmingham, the Desert Island Supply Company holds workshops during which they encourage students from local schools to write about a given topic or prompt. In the spirit of both community action in the Birmingham area and engaged study in the liberal arts, the Bunting Center has partnered with DISCo to add a science component to the repertoire of creative writing workshops. Birmingham-Southern volunteers explain or demonstrate a science topic while encouraging and working with DISCo workshop participants to develop what they have seen into a creative, easy-to-understand, and — most importantly — fun narrative.
