Individualized Majors
Students may develop their own major in consultation with the faculty. Developing an individualized major permits a student to follow a course of study not normally offered by the College. Doing so allows students to construct a major in a liberal arts framework that satisfies their individual interests and career plans.
In cooperation with at least three faculty members, students formalize the design of their major no later than the fall semester of their junior year. The Interim and Contract Learning Committee then reviews the proposal and recommends changes as needed for approval.
Students should recognize that the Interim and Contract Learning Committee does not approve all proposals, particularly if a current major offered by the College would satisfy the student's interests and plans or if the proposed major is not consistent with the mission of the College.
Official guidelines for individualized major proposals can be found in the Catalog under Courses of Study, Individualized Majors (http://www.bsc.edu/academics/catalog-index.htm) and at the Interim and Contract Learning home page.
