Courses, Curriculum, and Placement

What am I interested in?  What am I prepared for? What’s required of me?

Areas of Study. You may access all information about individual areas of study, including recommended courses within each, through the areas of study index page.

Placement. The College assesses each student's preparedness level in some areas, such as foreign language and mathematics, and places students accordingly.  Students should consider this placement while planning their academic program.

Planning an academic program consists of five main components: the foundations curriculum; the major and possibly a minor; interim; special academic enhancement programs, such as Honors or service learning; and pre-professional and career considerations.

Foundations Curriculum for General Education. Familiarity with the structure of the general education program makes comprehending and satisfying the requirements easier. For a brief outline of this structure, visit the Foundations Outline and Purpose page. Detailed program requirements can be found at the Foundations Requirements page.

Major and Minor. This page provides guidance and information on choosing a major or minor.

Interim. Information about the College's distinctive January interim term can be found on this page.

Academic Enhancement Opportunities. Some students may be interested in pursuing academic opportunities above and beyond graduation requirements, such as Honors, Hess Center programs, research or teaching, and so on.  For information, visit enhancement programs.

Pre-Professional Programs. This page provides links to career planning resources and pre-professional programs.
