Independent Study Contracts
Students may design their own research experiences to reflect their individual needs and interests. Students seeking such opportunities should contact a faculty member in a relevant area in order to develop a proposal, which will be formally submitted for approval by the Office of Exploration Term and Contract Learning.
A student who contracts for independent study will be automatically registered for that unit (or partial unit) when the contract is approved. It will appear on the student's transcript with a course number of 293, 393, or 493 in the appropriate discipline, or as 299 or 399 if completed during the Exploration term.
Students may also design and contract their own major. For information on developing your own major, visit the individualized major information page.
Further information about contracting courses and majors may be found at the Contract Learning page and in the Catalog under Courses of Study, Individualized Study.
The College also offers a competitive program for research and/or teaching collaboration with a professor. For information on this program, see the Vail College Fellows information page.
