Philosophy

Information for Non-Majors
Recommended courses and advice for non-majors. The philosophy faculty recommends that non-majors enroll in any 200 level course except PL 241 Logic. Mathematics students might consider PL 241.
Information for Majors
Advice for majors. The philosophy faculty recommends that philosophy majors complete one introductory level course early in their academic career, as the introductory courses serve as prerequisites for upper-level courses.
Explorations curriculum requirement in Connectivity. All students must complete a scholarly senior seminar, Exploration term, or independent study as deemed appropriate by disciplinary faculty in the major. Philosophy satisfies this requirement through PL 470 Senior Seminar in Philosophy.
All majors at the College require a senior conference. Philosophy majors satisfy this requirement through a twenty to thirty minute summary of their research papers written in PL 470, followed by discussion, at a meeting of the Philosophy Club. Meetings are typically held during a Tuesday common hour.
