Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Scoring points with the community—The Panther football team recently had 15 volunteers at the Firehouse Shelter in downtown Birmingham serving dinner. The student-athletes not only provided meals to more than 100 individuals that day, but they also helped provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere for those who eat at the center. The Firehouse Shelter provides homeless men with shelter, clothing, and a hot meal. The players who volunteered were Andrew Armour, Tyson Beacham, Jordan Culliver, Nick Gordon, Will Hagood, Zack Lambert, Robert Nelson, Drew Reece, Jake Robertson, Cole Rudder, Aaron Sherrill, Jimmy Stainback, Jeffery Steele, Kortland Withrow and Conner Young. They were accompanied by Head Coach Eddie Garfinkle and Assistant Coaches Dyer Carlisle and Gerald Gann. The football squad also raised $4,500 for the local chapter of the American Red Cross this semester and donated numerous pairs of shoes to the clients of Piper Place, a nearby mental rehabilitation center.
Art for a cause—Students from BSC’s Student Art League transformed an ordinary picnic table into a Watercress Darter painting as part of the Nature Conservancy of Alabama’s “Picnic for the Planet” Earth Day Celebration held recently at Railroad Park. The BSC picnic table was one of the prize winners at the event. The table, donated by Brasfield Gorrie, will be auctioned off at the Southern Environmental Center’s EcoFest 14 fundraiser Oct. 4. The BSC student artists are (from left) Jenn Oxford, Katie Stanley, Alessandra Norman, Audrey Davis, and Richard Stump.
